Starting to experiment with imagery

Following my experiments with printmaking, I then started to think about paintings as part of an installation, and what sorts of imagery I would want to use to fit in with my concepts. I thought back to my childhood and typically feminine/camp/lary things that I enjoyed:

- Girl bands

- Bright colours (pinks, oranges, yellows)

- Kitschy 80s/50s horror

- carry on film

- animals - cats / horses / birds

- extravagant makeup / DRAG

However, I want to tip these images on their head a little. I don't want to make traditionally "pretty" versions of these but turn them into something vibrant, lurid and distorted. I think that these would fit my art style more and also add to the there being a sense of the unapologetic and lack of shame - I want the drawings to scream rather than be mild / meek / timid / toned down. I'll also be inspired by drag culture and look at these to sketch from as I feel they are also an embodiment of this long repressed femininity.
