Imagery

In order to narrow down my FMP imagery for the final piece, I decided to look through a lot of my recent paintings and sketches to see which imagery popped the most. I then decided that throughout my FMP I have been using images of Western / American vintage homosexuality and the intersection of masculinity and femininity that takes place here (blonde muscled drag queens, motorcycle gangs, cowgirls, tight fitting dresses etc). This is then combined with images of conquest / violence to suggest that queer people are capable of resisting and holding positions of control.

I originally was only focused on using modern images (e.g: gay icons like Kat Slater or Cheryl Cole) but I've now decided that I could use these alongside other images - there doesn't have to be one sleek / refined single image for a large installation - I can play around with different images and see which will work better with one another.

After taking an in depth look through I decided that this would probably be the best way to summarize my ideas in a final piece - Queer Americana and placing camp / feminine figures in positions of power. I also decided to narrow this down even further by taking away the Medieval imagery of my last piece and instead looking at the American West, which I still felt represented butch / macho culture well

Possible ideas for images in this final installations - can-can dancers, nightclubs, gunfights, cowgirls with plaits, eagles, rays of sun, screaming drag queens, motels, acts of violence, effeminate / "pansy" men (+lots of other images along these lines - it will involve a lot of combining queer/femme/drag images and imagery associated with control and power)
