Reflections

On using new materials:

- felt as though use of collaged paper images was quite effective in creating a messy atmosphere - although would have to be careful to keep this slightly more refined (too messy could distract or overpower a composition)

- Use of gems was really fiddly but fun and felt it added extra texture which made the piece feel more lively. I could have lots of smaller gems dotted around a wider installation to embellish / make painted elements feel more whole

On Styrofoam and plastic experiments:

- styrofoam texture was slightly too modern looking for how I want my final piece to feel - perhaps less effective

- plastic worked better for building up texture - could use acrylic layered up really thick which then takes up a kind of surface of its' own. Could have images like this dotted around the wall space of an installation

On using western images for my final piece:

- Main issue is ensuring that piece still reflects main ideas of femininity / girliness when looking at Western images (can use flowers, drag, daisies, love hearts etc - really kitsch / campy ideas but could work?)

(I aim to solve this problem by being quiet thoughtful / considered in my sketches for the final piece. It's about finding the right balance between the two sides (+still ensuring imagery is varied and interesting)
