Artists pieces I liked

No Woman No Cry - Chris Ofili

- Like the huge scale for a more simplistic image. Just a bust but so well done and markmaking is so interesting that it makes it iconic rather than simple. + background patterns and shapes are really unique and interesting

Aubrey Williams' paintings

- All really striking. For me even the abstract ones really drew me in more than the figuration. Marks looked really quick / gestural and shapes were really organic and flow to fit the music Williams' painted to./ I could do a similar thing with high dopamine pop music

FN Souza

- Use of colour is STUNNING - the deep black with blues and oranges painted over the top - need to layer colour like this it needs to feel thick and built up. Love the kind of sinister / angular figuration - feels quite demonic and dark

Paula Rego

- Not like other Rego paintings I have seen. Love these a lot more than others I've seen - similar to Williams = bold use of colour and natural fluid use of shape - the blue segment really popped and I could look at similar alien looking shapes

Elizabethan Paintings

- Honestly a lot of the reasons that I liked the modern paintings were similar to why I liked the really early Elizabethan ones. Figuration is almost sinister - rigid and alien like figures of women holding babies - they're gaunt and deathly pale and dressed up in lace and ruffs in bed - camp and sinister I love it and it makes me think that really bleak imagery could be really exciting
