Reflections from Jonathan Lyndon Chase show

What stuck out to me:

- Real sense of fluidity in each painting - the figuration was really gestural and more focused on emotion rather than fixed proportions. I also realy enjoyed the 3d elements stuck onto the painting. This felt really playful and also helped to pop with the colours (e.g: inclusion of gold hoop earrings or gems on the canvases - worked really well with Chase's style of painting)

- I found the installation in the middle the most compelling part - every household object covered in faces and mouths and lipstick stains - real sense of eroticism and Chase has essentially carved out a place for black queer sexuality. I really enjoyed the sculptural elements - e.g: faces as ashtrays or lampshades.

- Loved the screen with the imagery and soundscape playing continually - it really set an atmosphere and helped to make the space more immersive.

- Size of the main paintings themselves was also really impressive. I think thatworking on a larger scale couples really well with Chase's fluid / natural / erotic imagery and bold use of colour.

- Finally, I loved the pop culture elements and thin this is a great tie to the combination of femininity and masculinity - e.g: bearded more masculine face on Nicki Minaj's body = interesting expression of gender + androgyny
