I felt like it was a real success compared to past pieces + am finally developing an artistic style that I enjoy and feel passionate about. This project was a dream because I am constantly inspired by music and media - the piece honestly just feels like a visual representation of the dance music I love to listen to. This is a type I certainly want to develop
Enjoyed painting on objects and feel this was a successful experiment into building out to 3d works - definitely could develop this more though (e.g: making a piece that is entirely made up of 3d things). I could play with domestic settings / alter tables etc - o objects will always have connotations to play around with. And then of course there's a whole other world of actually sculpting objects / ceramics to paint on rather than using found imagery. However, for the moment for the sake of time, as they are quick experiments, I will use second hand objects.
Really wish I’d experimented into some kind of print making - hanging prints could have had a really lush atmosphere and would have increased the kind of backstage / domestic feel of the installation - all parts of the wall could have been completely covered (could have been really 80s Miami with neons and pastels, pinks, greens, house plants).

Ideas for next piece:

During the crit David said that he's excited to see what I would be doing for the next piece and that hopefully I would be able to carry across the same kind of jollity and frivolity that are often seen in the Flemish paintings. I knew that I would be able to do this but honestly this made me want to push myself outside of my comfort zone and make a piece with a completely different atmosphere, perhaps on different surfaces etc. Some of the flemish paintings are really silent / calm / reflective and I could try making a neater piece (although this wouldn't fit naturally with my art style). Alternatively, I could try and push my style in a really dark direction. A lot of pieces in the National Gallery (+ classical pieces in general) are really horrific and gruesome. I'll have to see when I go to the National what really jumps out at me / what styles I'm obsessed with and then go from there!!
